Infection Prevention and Control (Level 2) - Clinical
Course Overview
This session aligns to the Core Skills Training Framework (England) v1.1. The CSTF target audience for level 2 is all healthcare staff groups involved in direct patient care or services.
Please note that you should have completed level 1 before starting this level 2 session. Level 1 contains essential, foundational information on infection prevention and control standards for all staff. Level 2 builds on what was learned in level 1 and is specifically intended for staff providing direct patient care and services. This session will help you:
- Be able to describe a healthcare organisation's and your own responsibilities in terms of current infection prevention and control legislation
- Know how to obtain information about infection prevention and control within the organisation
- Understand what is meant by the term healthcare-associated infections
- Understand the chain of infection and how this informs infection prevention and control practice
- Demonstrate an understanding of the routes of transmission of microorganisms
- Understand individual roles and responsibilities for the three levels of decontamination
- Use single use items appropriately
- Be able to conduct a risk assessment in respect of ensuring infection prevention and control
- Explain different alert organisms and conditions that pose an infection risk
- Describe how to safely manage patients with specific alert organisms
